Kids Exchange Sale: Monday July 12 - Monday July 19, 2010
FREQUENTLY ASKED KIDS EXCHANGE QUESTIONS:
*How does the new Consumer Protection's lead law affect me as a Seller?
The Kids Exchange recently contacted the NC Attorney General's office (who is in charge of enforcing the new lead law). Even they are still unsure about this law and it's implications. It seems to be confusing to all invovled. They told us that they would not out at events looking for violations. For now, they would only get invovled if there is a complaint that is brought to them. They are also frustrated about the 'hard to understand' law. The only absolute at this time is that it is illegal to knowingly sell recalled items. It is up to the Reseller (which is you - not The Kids Exchange) to make sure you are not selling recalled items.
The Kids Exchange is a platform for parents to sell their unneeded items. The items always remain the property of the seller. Please note that the Kids Exchange Sellers are considered the 'ReSeller'...not the Kids Exchange. Kids Exchange is compared to Ebay or Craigslist.....just in person instead of online. The Seller always remains the 'Reseller' of their items.
On the Consumer Protection Agency's website, they have recommendations about items that you 'may' want to consider not selling if you want to be extra cautious.....but their only requirement is that you do not sell recalled items. Especially with carseats, baby furniture & toys, simply google search the item to make sure it's not recalled or check on the manufacture's website. Another option is to check the Consumer Protection Agency's list of recalled items, but this list is very long and dates back to 1977. It may be quicker for you to research your individual item: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prerel.html
The Consumer Protection site clearly says that Rellers are NOT responsible for lead testing. If you would like to take a look at their suggestions, please check out this link. Remember, these are suggestions, not requirements. The only requirment is to not sell recalled items. http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/thrift/thrguid.pd
Kids Exchange will not be checking for recalls, just like eBay and Craigslist do not check each item that is posted on their site. We can not stress enough the importance for Sellers to check to make sure they are not selling recalled items. This is for your benefit.
When we understand more, we will post the new information on this site for our Sellers.
* Do I have to use metal hangers?
Yes, plastic hangers break, and your clothes end up on the floor. Most local dry cleaners will give you metal hangers for free or for a very small price.
* Can someone else drop off, and pick up for me? Yes, they will need your consignor number, sorting number, and address.
* How do I tag small items, onesies, or shoes? Put small items in a ziplock bag and use clear packing tape to attach the tag to the bag.
* How do I tag my item so that it does not sell for 1/2 price? Write your price in red ink.
